Restoring the Windows 7 Bootloader

This hub is simply about solving a problem for Windows Users especially those who dual boot with Other operating systems such as Linux.

A few weeks ago, i was testing the new Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat on my computer and after testing it, it really didn't satisfy my needs so i decided to try to remove it by booting into Windows and deleting the partitions that belonged to it. I then restarted my computer and it refused to boot to any OS. so i decided to go online and find a solution to the problem. Here's what i found

In order to restore your windows 7 boot-loader, you would need the following.

1. Your windows installation disk (For Windows 7)

That's all. Once you boot the Disk from your DVD-ROM drive at startup, click the "Repair my computer" option. Then choose to repair from the command prompt. At the command prompt, type the following command:

bootsect /nt60 C: /mbr

Then restart you computer, once it boots up, it would give you the old Windows Vista start-up GUI but you can change this by Starting Command Prompt as administrator (by right clicking Command Prompt and selecting "Run As Administrator") and type in the following command:

bootrec /fixmbr

After that, you're done.
